ok heres the deal, relaxers are intended for straightening the hair and making it more manageable, the longer u leave it on the straighter it becomes, leave it on too long and your hair will fall out, base your scalp if it is sensitive, go to sally's and ask for a base, i have worn a relaxer all my life but i would never trust myself to do it, i think u should llet a professional do it, this is the other thing, most african americans overprocess their hair, heres y: when u go back in 6-8 weeks to touch up the new growth, u cant help but overlap the already realxed hair, which causes breakage and brittleness of the hair, so give it a break for as long as u can stand, i'm african american, i get anout two relaxers a year, i get one then in about 4 weeks i get my hair braided and weaved so that none of my hair is out, i leave it up for about three months, take it out and get it put back in, i might get a relaxer after the second weave, but it is not damaging b/c i have let my have have a rest from the relaxer and the stress that u put on everyday hair, hopr this helps, not a pro, but have learn through trial and error of others, let me know, also u can e-mail me

Yes you can use a relaxer, I used one on my dry curly hair and it made it soft and straight. Make sure you know what you're doing, if you don't your hair could fall out.

NO! if your hair is dry use some conditioner/conditioning treatments on it for a week or 2 before you relax or your hair might start to break off very bad. Also the hair should not be exposed to water 24-48 hr. prior to relaxing.
