I have been battling the same problem lately. I have found that rinsing with a gallon of distilled water does help because our water is very hard. In addition to that, if your hair is very dry, try Redken Butter Treat. Mist your hair occasionally with distilled water to hydrate it and if you live in a dry area, use a humidifier. If you are in the sun or wind for extended periods, wear a hat.

I hope these suggestions help you.

Pantene Pro V has a mosturizing/conditioning hair mask that works really well. It stays on for 5 minutes after you shampoo and then you rinse it out. It's supposed to be used once a week. (or more for more dry/damaged hair)

avoid straightening.. blow drying.. curling etc, unless you use some heat defense products, but still keep it to a min.

try using deep conditioning conditioner once every 1 or two weeks.

shampoo hair, then slightly towel dry hair, and put it on, then wrap your hair up in a warm damp towel and leave for a while, then wash it out.

also use shampoos and conditioners for dry/damaged hair

When you have a shower, throw a towel in the dryer, and set it to hot. When you have shampooed, rinsed, and put in your conditioner, get out and wrap your hair in the hot towel. Leave it on for about an hour or so, and then rinse it out.

This is a cheap, simple deep conditioning trick, and it works!

Dry hair tends to be thin and rough so try washing less often .To prevent your hair from becoming dry and brittle, avoid using hot curling irons, bleaching and perming .Check out http://solutionsfordryhair.blogspot.com/ for more info.
