I have shorter hair, but I don't normally blow dry my hair. When I do, though, I have very thin hair so I blow dry it in sections, holding the dryer upside down to fluff it up and out. Fuller hair instantly! Yay blow dryer. :)

For short hair there's not too much you can do for it, unfortunately. A bit of hairspray/gel and blowdrying to spike it will give you punk rock hair...

While a round brush and drying with give you a cute bit of flip and curl at the ends.

Drying your hair and only using your fingers to style and comb it will give you short, slightly messy (but cute) waves.

But I have a friend who's a hairstylist, with hair almost exactly like yours, longer in the front with layers but spiked in the back. The look that works for her is spiking the back out and using gel to smooth her longer bangs across the front, add a cute headband and presto. Not much blowdrying involved at all.
